Nova marks Amanda Baldwin’s first sustained engagement with monoprinting, extending her ongoing investigations of landscape, color, pattern, and pictorial space into a new medium. Created in collaboration with master printmaker Brad Ewing, the series returns repeatedly to a single landscape composition, transforming it through shifts in color, texture, and handwork.
Across the works, stylized vegetation, mountain-like forms, and a vast concentric celestial body move between recognition and abstraction. The repeated image becomes a structure for variation rather than sameness, with each work occupying a different chromatic and psychological state. Combining silkscreen with extensive hand-finishing in acrylic and oil, Nova exists in a fluid space between painting and printmaking, repetition and singularity. Baldwin received her MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012, making the exhibition a return of her work to Richmond.
