In Tree Hollow, Shana Hoehn transforms the familiar image of a tree trunk into a psychological and bodily space. The hollow at its center becomes both an orifice and a threshold—something that invites entry but also conceals. Created through a process of graphite rubbings and painted texture, the surface carries the impression of touch and memory. Hoehn’s practice often blurs distinctions between body and landscape, drawing on the mythology of femininity and nature’s cycles of growth, decay, and regeneration. Here, the void feels alive, echoing Dalí’s own use of apertures and absences as sites of desire and transformation.
