Benjamin Langford • Travis Boyer • Joseph Jones
September 2 – October 8, 2025
Richmond, Virginia
Richmond, Virginia, August 26th —Bloom States presents a compelling conversation between three contemporary artists who each reconceive the flower—Langford through hyper-real wall sculpture; Boyer through tactile, light-shifting velvet surfaces; and Jones through intimate, collage-like painting. The exhibition traces how a singular motif can metamorphose across materials, memory, and meaning.
Benjamin Langford constructs botanical illusions that hover between photography, painting, and sculpture. His wall sculptures, composed of hundreds of photographs of a single flower, are printed, cut, hand-painted, and assembled to create vibrant, dimensional forms that defy their 2D origins.
Travis Boyer delivers sumptuous hand-dyed velvet works whose floral imagery appears alive—shifting color and perception with subtle changes in light and movement, infusing the traditional motif with sensory dynamism.
Joseph Jones invites intimate reflection with his layered paintings, blending references to 17th-century still lifes and everyday visuals. His compositions, dense and rhythmically detailed, reward sustained, meditative viewing.
Together, these three artists offer Bloom States as more than an exhibition—it is a study in material transformation. The flower, familiar yet mutable, becomes a vessel for beauty, reinvention, and the act of seeing itself.
