Stellar Creep explores the shifting patterns that emerge through the Japanese ceramic technique of nerikomi, in which layers of differently colored clays are stacked, compressed, stretched, or twisted into a single block before being sliced to reveal intricate cross-sectional designs. These patterned slabs are then reassembled, repeated, or recombined to form complex symmetries and rhythmic variations. Because the layers shift unpredictably during manipulation, each slice captures a unique iteration of the pattern—recording a moment in time. Like geological strata, the work renders movement and memory visible, making permanent the dialogue between my gesture and the material’s response.
