Marisa Adesman

Marisa Adesman (b. 1991, Roslyn, NY)

Marisa Adesman paints luminous, surreal interiors in which everyday objects—cutlery, linens, candles, houseplants—disrupt their familiar order, entering states of uncanny metamorphosis. Her scenes unfold like whispered spells: forks twist, glass figures hover, rooms tilt, and domestic rituals become charged with eroticism, tension, and secret narrative. Adesman bridges references from Dutch still life and vanitas traditions to surrealist poetics, evoking both technical mastery and dream logic in equal measure.

Adesman earned her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2018 and her BFA from Washington University in St. Louis.

Her recent solo exhibitions include Under the Rose (Anat Ebgi, New York, forthcoming 2025), The Birth of Flowers (KMAC Contemporary Art Museum, Louisville, KY, 2023), and Forklore (Anat Ebgi, Los Angeles, 2021). She has shown in group exhibitions at the Contemporary Art Museum (St. Louis), Black Mountain College Museum, Mead Art Museum, and Anat Ebgi (NY/LA).

Her work is held in several public collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (CA) and Museo d’Arte Moderna di Bologna (Italy). Adesman is based in Chicago, IL.
