Joseph Jones

Joseph Jones (b. 1985, UK)

Joseph Jones produces detailed paintings of cats and flowers that explore sensitive notions of care, compassion, and nurture. Often constructed from composite images drawn from his vast archive of found and shared photographs, his works recall the intimacy of 17th-century Flemish painting while simultaneously engaging the vernacular of pop culture and the digital image. These small-scale, meticulously crafted paintings ask viewers to slow down, offering a contemplative counterpoint to the relentless pace of image consumption and inviting reflection on how we look, value, and remember.

Jones studied Fine Art Painting at University of the Arts London (BA, 2008), with a year at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam (2007), and received his MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art, London (2010). Recent solo exhibitions include Natural Language at Ehrlich Steinberg, Los Angeles (2025); Joseph Jones at The Artists Room, London (2024); and Index at Roland Ross, Margate (2024). His work has also been featured in exhibitions at Workplace (London), Overduin & Co. (Los Angeles), and as part of Post-Fair Los Angeles (2025) with Ehrlich Steinberg and 4649 Tokyo.

Jones is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Art and Design at the University of Brighton. He lives and works in Sussex, UK.
